Thus here you will learn about the origin and the meaning of the word “Trekking” and you can understand the difference between these two separate modes of extreme sports.
What is Trekking
The word trek has your origin in Afrikaans. She went on to be widely used in the early 19th century by the vortrekkers, the first Dutch workers who colonized South Africa. The verb means trekken migrate and carried a connotation of suffering and physical endurance, at a time when the only way of moving from one point to another was walking.
When the British invaded the region and established your political dominance in Africa, the word was absorbed into the English language and was renamed the long and difficult walks performed by the explorers towards the interior of the continent, in search of new knowledge, as the source of the River Nile and the snows of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Then came the adventurers in search of strong emotions, usually found in distant regions of difficult access, only reached after long walks over rough terrain. Were the new trekkers.
Currently, the Word also in Portuguese, meaning hiking in natural trails in search of interesting places to get to know each other, enabling a greater contact with nature. The trekking has become the fastest-growing sports activity in the world.
The pleasure of hiking is to enjoy new landscapes that are not within the reach of anybody; a sense of privilege to go to places where few make, or seeing things that few saw; the superiority, strength, confidence and self-knowledge. (Beck, 1994).
What is Adventure race
Adventure racing is a human rally, a proof of an uninterrupted for several days in mixed teams of three to five members must use specific skills to accomplish steps of trekking, mountain bike, vertical techniques (rappelling, Tyrolean and Ascension), horseback riding, mountain climbing, swimming, canoeing, sailing and rafting guided by maps and compasses. Each team manages the timetables for rest, sleep and food. Wins the team to move more quickly through the United checkpoints previously established by the organization. It is a mixture of dispatch and competition across the most inhospitable places on Earth. More than fitness, these races require keen technical knowledge, strategies, emotional control, team spirit and love of nature. In the eyes of the competitors is a physical and psychological endurance test. In the eyes of the spectators is pure folly.
In Brazil, the adventure races come arousing the attention of athletes, expedition members and professionals in various fields in recent years, and is considered the fastest growing sport in the country currently. What is trekking or Trekking of Regularity
The sport appeared in 1992 in the city of São Paulo, for nature lovers, we decided to adapt the rules of hiking and Jeep to hike (Hiking).
Enduro proof boils down to a predetermined route for organizing, overcoming natural obstacles and covering roads, trails, streams, mountains, etc., with the time as close as possible to the ideal set by the race Director. It’s not a speed test, but guidance and regularity, where average speeds and distances are provided between references listed in spreadsheet, allowing to calculate the exact time of passage at each point.
The trekking regularity has become an excellent way of fun and interaction with people, making possible the emergence of new friendships and strengthen old school. Many families also participate, making the day of an event to strengthen even more the family ties.
Today the trekking regularity has many competitions throughout Brazil, and from 1998, came the LINEP (National League of trekking), nonprofit institution that tries to unify and organize the competition across the country.
Because it is a regular competition, winning the team considered that is more precise in relation to average speed ideal, and lose less points in the final tally, after calculated the times of passage through checkpoints placed along the way. The loss of one of these checkpoints implies penalty to the team that lost. Points are computed as follows: every second in advance, there is a penalty of 2 points, and every second late, a penalty of 1 point.
